Some homes are built well but slowly outgrow the lives inside them. That was exactly the story of Vijin’s home in Nattika. The structure was strong, familiar, and filled with memories, but the layout no longer suited the needs of a growing family. Small enclosed rooms and limited openness made the space feel restricted.
The vision was not to erase the home’s character, but to reshape it for a new phase of life. The goal was simple. Open up the interiors, create better flow, add vertical expansion, and design spaces that feel connected, practical, and calming.
The transformation by Nirmithi Builders brought a fresh rhythm to the entire home while still preserving its warmth.
The ground floor was redesigned around a spacious living area that immediately changes the feel of the house. Instead of disconnected rooms, the new layout creates openness and movement throughout the space.
One of the most striking elements is the staircase, designed to function as both architecture and art. Exposed MS steel treads paired with a warm timber balustrade create a modern yet grounded aesthetic. Behind it, a CNC-cut jaali panel allows natural light to travel through the interiors, adding depth and visual texture during different times of the day
The result is a living space that feels brighter, larger, and far more connected.
The kitchen was completely rebuilt to suit modern functionality without losing warmth. The new L-shaped modular layout improves movement and efficiency while maintaining a clean visual balance.
The kitchen balances warmth and functionality through a carefully chosen mix of materials and finishes. Soft green cabinetry combined with natural wood tones creates a relaxed modern look, while concealed LED lighting beneath the cabinets adds both practicality and a gentle evening glow. Textured glass shutters bring subtle visual detail to the storage units, and the earthy brown backsplash ties the entire space together with a grounded, inviting feel.
Every element was carefully chosen to make the kitchen feel practical, elegant, and easy to live in every day.
The bedrooms were designed with simplicity and comfort at the centre.
One bedroom features a soft beige palette with rattan-finished joinery and full-height windows that bring in generous natural light. The space feels airy, minimal, and deeply restful.
The second bedroom embraces warmer cream tones and includes thoughtful details like a built-in window seat, a tufted headboard, and white-framed wardrobes that keep the room visually light and uncluttered.
Though different in personality, both rooms share the same intention: creating quiet spaces that encourage rest and calmness.
Among all the transformed spaces, the patio perhaps carries the strongest emotional presence. Designed as a transition between indoors and outdoors, it functions almost like a private retreat within the home.
A CNC-cut jaali screen filters the afternoon sunlight into soft moving patterns across the floor and walls. At the centre, a floating stone shelf holds a Buddha figure above a small water feature, introducing both stillness and sound into the space.
The gentle movement of water changes the atmosphere instantly. It becomes more than a patio. It becomes a place to pause, reflect, and breathe.
This renovation in Nattika reflects how thoughtful design can completely transform the experience of living in a home. Instead of simply adding more space, the project focused on creating better flow, better light, and spaces that feel emotionally connected to everyday life.
